The beauty of the method lies in its simplicity and speed, where the intense heat seals in the freshness and tends to the textures, ensuring each bite is as full of zest as the story it carries. The spices and sauces used are like the stories passed down through generations, conveying history and taste in a single spoonful.

The beauty of this dish lies not only in the rich tapestry of spices but also in the subtle hints of personalization that each chef brings to the table. "The chili garlic beef with bok choy was a feast of spices and tenderness in every bite! The beef was mouthwateringly juicy, and the bok choy kept its crisp charm. Heads up - don't skip the marinating; it's where the magic happens! If tangy with a hint of spice is your jam, this is your stop. Will definitely fire this one up again!"

Instructions

  • Step 1
  • Thinly slice the beef sirloin against the grain. This will ensure tender meat and is essential for stir-fry dishes.
  • Chef's Tip
Freeze the beef for about 30 minutes before slicing; it makes cutting thin slices much easier.
  • Step 2
  • Finely mince the garlic and ginger. Mix with the beef, adding the five-spice powder, chili flakes, soy sauce, and oyster sauce. Let it marinate for at least 15 minutes.
  • Chef's Tip
Marinating the beef for longer will intensify the flavors; if you have time, aim for 30 minutes.
  • Step 3
  • While the beef is marinating, prepare the baby bok choy by washing and slicing them in half lengthwise.
  • Step 4
  • Heat one tablespoon of vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat. Sear the baby bok choy cut-side down until slightly charred, about 1-2 minutes each side. Set aside.
  • Step 5
  • In the same wok, add the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil. Once hot, add the marinated beef in a single layer and cook without moving for 1 minute to develop a sear.
  • Step 6
  • Stir-fry the beef for another 2-3 minutes until it’s almost cooked through but still slightly pink.
  • Step 7
  • Chop the green onions and sprinkle them over the beef, along with the sesame seeds.
  • Step 8
  • Serve the beef hot over a bed of steamed rice, with the seared baby bok choy on the side.
Bon appétit!
